about

this song was written in frustration. it centres around the idea that no matter how hard many struggle to make "a success" of ourselves only to feel unappreciated and manipulated at just about every step along the process of financial and social success in the competitive rat race of these cities we call home.

lyrics

us city rats live on our knees
begging please don't take our homes
this city's soul built on fear
so we grow old. where do we go from here?

this city life turns ya on
turns the crank
same old song
a promised life on stolen land
endorphin rush is getting outa hand

by city lights it's hard to tell
who's going under, who's coming alive

these old hands work twice as hard
scarred and calloused, worth less than company cars
these old hands. tried and tested, tried and true
hope they'll see me through

these old bones will rot away
leaving words, got not much else to say
these old bones will crack and creak
all the while stayin' fashion on fleek

chorus

these city streets caked in snow
hard concrete but slippery undertow
these city lights light this prison
where i walk free so come walk to work with me

these hard times. they too shall last
just to repeat hard times of the past
so here i'll sit and sing my song
and i'll wonder am i coming alive or am i living in hell

standard tuning/open chords

F, Am, Dm, E
chrus C, Am, Dm, E
